Good Books, What are Those?

Sometimes, as people surrounded by the things of this world (i.e. the ideas, the evil, etc), we tend to go for those things. For instance, if you really think about it, the "exciting" books today are always written by pagans and people who really, deep down inside, hate God. Many of the classics are written by ungodly people who never really had any true love for God.

So, recently, I have been contemplating this, and have come to the fact that it is best to read godly books, written by godly, Christian men and women. Lately, I've been reading John Paton's autobiography (which is really quite good), Augustine's Confessions, Pilgrim's Progress, and a little bit of A'Kempis (some people consider him pagan, but I believe he really did love and fear God.

If none of you have ever read John Paton's autobiography, you N-E-E-D to. It is the amazing story of John G. Paton, who went to the New Hebrides as a missionary to the cannibals that lived there. Although he was constantly being chased and surrounded by natives who wanted to take his life, he never gave up faith in God.

Augustine's Confessions are really good as well. It tells the story of this man who had much influence on the church, and is almost an autobiography in many ways. He speaks of his childhood, his teenage years, and his adulthood. However, what I like most about it is that he is constantly referring to God all throughout the book. He is a man of true faith and conviction.

Well, these are only a few of what I've read, and I encourage you to read a good book this coming week. Even if its short, give it a try. Of course, I'm not saying that we should ONLY read Christian books written by Christian people, but we should never let the world drag us in with it's thoughts and ideas, that's why it's good to read a Christian book every once in a while.

Remember, however, even if you read all these books ten times over, there is one book way more important than any other book in the world. Can you guess which book? ;)

Edifyingly,

Books n' More
